Gateway's Entertainment Committee
"
Showtime Revue"
Gateway's Entertainment Committee or Showtime Revue is very much an embodiment of the original "Jolly Corks' who founded the Benovelent and Protective Order of Elks way back in 1867. They are fond of singing, dancing and just being entertaining. They are talented cut-ups, rabble-rousers, show-offs (and a few other things) that have kept this Lodge entertained since the 1970's.
The committee started as a couple of acts prepared for and with the Officers of the Lodge. As more and more members liked what they saw and wanted to participate, the committee grew. The first show that January was a "Rock & Roll" show and it was a big one! The fledgling group staged it with a tape deck, audio tapes and 1 lone spot light. And everyone wanted more!
Pretty soon more occasions were added at which the group could perform and they got better and better. It wasn't long that their fame began to spread and the Gateway Showtime Revue was being asked to perform at other Elks Lodges in Oregon and Washington.
Over the years the equipment has gotten more sophisticated. The sound and lights have been updated and new ideas tried. As the years have rolled by, the cast has, naturally, changed and currently the group consists of several "old timers" plus many new members with lots of ideas and talents. The group does 2 major shows each year and mounts smaller performances to aid and assist other Lodge committees and functions. They also co-sponsor the Lodge's Kid's Christmas Party/ Show with the Officers where they provide sound, lighting, costuming, makeup, help with direction and, in short, put on a really great show!
The committee raises money from their shows throughout the year and make donations to other Lodge charities. This past year they donated $1500 to the ELks National Foundation.
If you would be interested in joining this fun group, there is always room for new performers, stage hands, sound and lighting people, costuming and makeup help. Just give the Lodge office a call and they will be happy to put you in touch with the committee chairperson. Or, if you'd like, drop by their regular monthly meeting at the Lodge. It is held on the second Wednesday night of the month at 7:00pm.
