The installation of our officers is a dignified and respectful ceremony...up to a point!
The ER Agitation Committee struck the first blow early this year and with the help of a Trustee it all went down hill fast.
2010 EASTER EGG HUNT

The Easter Bunny paid the Lodge a visit again this year and spread joy (and a whoie lot of chocolate eggs) around our park for the kids to enjoy!
2010 EXALTED RULER'S ROAST

Last April he was young, virile and full of life. Now he is just a shell. But the Past Exalted Rulers have the cure and last Thursday night they roasted him properly and, like a Phoenix from the ashes, brought him back as the new Baby PER.
2009 NEW YEAR'S PARTY

New Year's came in to a Mardi Gras theme this year. A New Orleans inspired dinner, masks, Jambalaya & Crawfish after midnight and a whole lot of dancing made for a great way to start 2010.
2009 KID'S CHRISTMAS SHOW

Once again it's the kids' turn to entertain the adults with their very own Christmas Show. This year's theme, "From Gateway with Love...A Christmas Letter to a Soldier".

And then it was the member's turn to vvie for those crazy birds! Red tickets, blue tickets, salmon colored tickets...which one will be the lucky color and number? All of the money goes to membership, so it doesn't really matter. But it is always nice to walk out with a bird under your arm.
2009 WOMEN'S TURKEY SHOOT

It was ladies night for the first Turkey Shoot of the season. Some of our younger and more "buff" male officers and members donned Chippendale type outfits to "encourage" the ladies to buy more tickets. As usual, the crowd was enthusiastic, the turkeys plump and ready for the oven, the dinner great and the evening a big success!
2009 VETERANS PARTY

An afternoon of live music, dancing, food & drinks were provided by the Veterans Committee to honor our nation's veterans. Our own Gateway Showtime Revue players were joined by a group of talented entertainers from Vancouver Elks Lodge #823 to provide music & songs that were very appropriate to the occasion. Also present were the Young Marines of Vancouver, WA who depicted our soldiers in vignettes from WWI, WWII, Korea, Vietnam and the current conflicts. Their showpiece was a depiction of the flag raising at Mount Suribachi on Iwo Jima.

2009 CHARITY BALL

The theme of our annual Charity Ball this year was " A Holiday Masquerade". A formal evening with a fantastic dinner, lively music, masks, a silent auction and beautiful people
all roilled up in an elegant setting. The proceeds of which help fund our Christmas Baskets next month in December.
2009 HALLOWEEN PARTY

This year's annual Halloween Party was a huge success. The Lodge was packed, the costumes were fantastic and everyone seems to be having a great time.

PUMPKIN PATCH LODGE #1

Past Exalted Pumpkins Jack O'Lantern and Bumpkin Pumpkin from Pumpkin Patch Lodge #1 visited Gateway Lodge to wish our members a Happy Halloween. They said that they heard we were having a Halloween Party and wanted to convey their felicitations. They also added that last year their Lodge decided to bob for french fries instead of apples and that they did not recommend we do the same.

GATEWAY LODGE DONATES CHRISTMAS QUILTS TO EYE CLINIC

Member Diana Mills created 21 Christmas Quilts to be donated through the Lodge to the Elks Children's Eye Clinic in Portland. Diana is an accomplished quilter and has created and donated through the Lodge over 1923 quilts to the patients at the Eye Clinic, patients at the Veterans Hospital, animals at the Humane Society and other institutions where the comfort of a quilt is appreciated. Her total for this year alone is 455 blankets!

2009 ADULT PICNIC

The weather was perfect for our annual Member Appreciation Adult Picnic
in the park. Loyal Knight Paul and his crew put together a great party with free food, beer and wine. And what a feast! BBQ Chicken, Ribs, Burgers, Dogs, Corn, Salads, Watermelon...you name it! There were games, pony races, horseshoe pitching, croquet and a lot of good fun and socializing.
2009 ENF FUNDRAISER DINNER-DANCE

Gateway members were treated to an evening of the most spectactular display of talent and showmanship that hasn't been seen in this Lodge in many years. The Fabulous Studio Band out of Porterville, CA transported us back to the 1940's
with music of Glen Miller, Stan Kenton, Hoagy Carmichael, Jerry Herman and the like. Chef Eric and our kitchen staff prepared an excellant dinner which was served with precision and efficiency by the Boy Scouts of Troop #606. All proceeds from the evening went to the Elks National Foundation.

It may have been cloudy, cold and threatening to rain but that didn't stop the Easter Bunny...or the kids! Warm coats and plenty of hot chocolate were all they needed to get out there and find those easter eggs!

their best to enjoy an evening of wonderful food, good drink, great music and atmosphere in a setting of nostalgia created by Elk posters of days gone by.

Our annual banquet to thank all of the people on our various committees for all of the magnificent work they do throughout the year and to introduce our Elk of the Year and Officer of the Year. Also honored is our "Citizen of the Year", a member of the community, not necessarily an Elk, who has gone that extra mile to make our community a better place.

As he counts down the days before leaving office, our Exalted Ruler faces his last and greatest trial as ER...the ER Roast. Based on a directionally-challenged moment
as Leading Knight, Russ was led on a journey through scenic Tillamook to Garibaldi
for crabbing - to deliver hot dogs and beer at Seaside - to convention and dance a hula in Anaheim - and finally arrive as the Baby PER!
2009 ELKETTES' CHILI COOK-OFF

Ola compadres! Hot & Spicy Chili served up by various individuals and Lodge committees to tempt your taste buds with flavors from south of the border! This event brings out the best chili cookers and helps raise a considerable sum for the Elkettes' Charities.
2009 ELKETTES' DISABLED DANCE

The annual Elkettes' Disabled Dance was held Friday night and more than 150 or our local physically and mentally impaired friends dropped by to dance, share in a variety of sweets and soft drinks and to enjoy entertainment provided by the Lodge's "Showtime Revue". This event each year has a special place in the hearts of our members as we get to share in the wonderful spirit and joy of our special friends.
SWEETHEARTS BALL

An evening out with your sweetheart is always special but it is even more so when you're out to a Sweethearts Ball at the Lodge. Chef Eric and the kitchen crew outdid themselves with a terrific meal and Ghostrider rocked the house with their fine music as always.
"All You Can Eat" Crab & Shrimp Feed

The Past Exalted Rulers annual "All You Can Eat" Crab & Shrimp Feed was a complete success again this year. They even served oyster shooters as a special extra! If you walked away from this one hungry...it was your own fault!
Legislative Day at the State Capital

Gateway joined with other Oregon Lodges and the Oregon State Elks Association to spend the day at the State Capital in Salem meeting with our Senators and Representatives. Display tables featuring both individual Lodges and State projects were erected on the main floor of the capital building and the Elks treated our legislators and their staffs to root beer floats in the afternoon.
Youth Day in the Game Room

Sunday afternoon and the kids of the Lodge took over the Game Room to enjoy a day just for themselves at the Lodge. Darts, Pool, video games, music, pizza and special drinks just for the under-age set
made it a great place to hang out with their peeps and also meet new friends
DICTIONARIES FOR 3rd GRADERS

Gateway members deliveried 600 dictionaries to local area middle schools as part of a national effort to put a dictionary in the hand of every 3rd grader. The kids were thrilled with the dictionaries, the teachers were grateful and the members who delivered them had way too much fun interacting with the kids!
2008 Christmas Baskets for Families in Need

Normally delivered in time for Christmas, this year's baskets of food for families in need was delayed by a major snowstorm. But as soon as the roads were clear the members of the Lodge got in and got it done. 200 baskets containing
canned goods, pasta, eggs, butter, milk, a whole turkey, bread, potatoes, onions, carrots, celery, stuffing mix and other assorted food stuffs made it to the recipients in time for a New Year's Dinner..
2008 Kids Christmas Show

The kids of the Lodge staged a Christmas show for the members to enjoy. Elaborate costumes, singing, dancing, music and great entertainment...and all of the enthusiasm only the kids can bring to it.
2008 Christmas Party at VA Hospital

Sixteen members of Gateway Lodge Veterans Committee and 16 members of the Vancouver VFW & Vancouver Elks Lodge joined forces this year to bring a little Christmas cheer to the patients at the VA Nursing Skill Care Unit in Vancouver, WA with an evening of Bingo, a visit by Mrs Clause, snacks, musical entertainment and a presentation of 80 handmade lap quilts.
2008 Memorial Service for our Departed Members

Gateway Lodge remembers its members who have passed away with a very beautiful and moving annual Memorial Service
2008 Member's Turkey Shoot

This year's Member's Turkey Shoot was an unqualified success! Those little gobblers never stood a chance when our members and their guests took aim! We sold over 200 turkey dinners before the shoot and made a very tidy profit on the even as a whole.
2008 Ladies Turkey Shoot

It was ladies night to hunt down the little gobblers and bag them for Thanksgiving dinner. It also helped raise money for our Christmas Basket program for those families that need a helping hand during the holidays.
2008 Charity Ball

The Lodge was transformed into a crystal palace complete with beautiful snow-globes and an elagant christmas tree for the annual Charity Ball. Monies raised go directly to fund our Christmas Baskets for the less fortunate during the holiday season.
2008 Veteran's Party

An afternoon of live music, dancing, food & drinks were provided by the Veterans Committee to honor our nation's veterans. Vancouver Elks Lodge #823 contributed a group of talented entertainers to the festivities who performed songs that were very appropriate to the occasion.
A special flag folding ceremony was performed by a veterans honor guard with the flag presented to the Venneri Family of Portland in honor of their son, PFC Steven C Venneri, who was killed in a plane crash during takeoff from Gander, Newfoundland. Venneri was one of 248 members of the 101st Airborne Division of Fort Campbell, Kentucky and 8 crew members returning home for Christmas from a U.N. peacekeeping mission in the Middle East. A memorial was raised at the junction of US 41-A and the Pennyrile Parkway in Hopkinsville, Christian Co, Kentucky and the flag presented in Sunday's ceremony was actually flown over that memorial.
Also during the proceedings a World War II veteran Gerald Glen Roberts was presented a special citation and medal for Commemorative Service in the Signal Corps during the famous Battle of the Bulge.
2008 Elkette Christmas Bazaar

Once again our wonderful Elkettes staged the definitive Holiday Bazaar by inviting vendors from all over the metro area to set up their displays in the Lodge.
