2008 Christmas Baskets for Families in Need

Normally delivered in time for Christmas, this year's baskets of food for families in need was delayed by a major snowstorm. But as soon as the roads were clear the members of the Lodge got in and got it done. 200 baskets containing
canned goods, pasta, eggs, butter, milk, a whole turkey, bread, potatoes, onions, carrots, celery, stuffing mix and other assorted food stuffs made it to the recipients in time for a New Year's Dinner..
2008 Christmas Party at VA Hospital

Sixteen members of Gateway Lodge Veterans Committee and 16 members of the Vancouver VFW & Vancouver Elks Lodge joined forces this year to bring a little Christmas cheer to the patients at the VA Nursing Skill Care Unit in Vancouver, WA with an evening of Bingo, a visit by Mrs Clause, snacks, musical entertainment and a presentation of 80 handmade lap quilts.
2008 Memorial Service for our Departed Members

2008 Member's Turkey Shoot

This year's Member's Turkey Shoot was an unqualified success! Those little gobblers never stood a chance when our members and their guests took aim! We sold over 200 turkey dinners before the shoot and made a very tidy profit on the even as a whole.
2008 Ladies Turkey Shoot

It was ladies night to hunt down the little gobblers and bag them for Thanksgiving dinner. It also helped raise money for our Christmas Basket program for those families that need a helping hand during the holidays.
2008 Charity Ball

The Lodge was transformed into a crystal palace complete with beautiful snow-globes and an elagant christmas tree for the annual Charity Ball. Monies raised go directly to fund our Christmas Baskets for the less fortunate during the holiday season.
2008 Veteran's Party

An afternoon of live music, dancing, food & drinks were provided by the Veterans Committee to honor our nation's veterans. Vancouver Elks Lodge #823 contributed a group of talented entertainers to the festivities who performed songs that were very appropriate to the occasion.
A special flag folding ceremony was performed by a veterans honor guard with the flag presented to the Venneri Family of Portland in honor of their son, PFC Steven C Venneri, who was killed in a plane crash during takeoff from Gander, Newfoundland. Venneri was one of 248 members of the 101st Airborne Division of Fort Campbell, Kentucky and 8 crew members returning home for Christmas from a U.N. peacekeeping mission in the Middle East. A memorial was raised at the junction of US 41-A and the Pennyrile Parkway in Hopkinsville, Christian Co, Kentucky and the flag presented in Sunday's ceremony was actually flown over that memorial.
Also during the proceedings a World War II veteran Gerald Glen Roberts was presented a special citation and medal for Commemorative Service in the Signal Corps during the famous Battle of the Bulge.
2008 Elkette Christmas Bazaar

Once again our wonderful Elkettes staged the definitive Holiday Bazaar by inviting vendors from all over the metro area to set up their displays in the Lodge.
2008 Halloween Party

Gateway's annual Halloween Party brought out some of the Lodge's finest...uh, well...er...ummmm...
ok, look at the pictures, you'll get the idea.
2008 Visit to Hood River Lodge

Gateway's officers and a whole bus-load of members decended on Hood River Lodge #1507 for a visitation just before Halloween. We were met by a very welcoming membership who provided a great dinner, a really fun meeting,
loads of entertainment and great company.
2008 Oktoberfest

Ein Prosit! Gateway Lodge celebrated Oktoberfest with delicious German food (Gut Essen), German drink (Bier!), German music and spirited Chicken Dancing!
Archie's Roadhouse Show

Once again the boys and girls of the Gateway Showtime Review staged an award-winning production. This time the setting was Archie's Roadhouse...a little outside of town, just off the Interstate. It's cowboys, truckers and red-hot mommas! The only thing you can be sure about at Archie's is that it won't be a dull evening!
2008 Pig in the Park

Even though Mother Nature had other plans and the event had to be brought indoors, this years Pig in the Park was a fantastic success! Oink-Masters Don Cohee and Bill Hornbeck cooked the two 80lb pigs to succulent perfection and the fresh corn, cole slaw, baked beans, rolls and ice cream that went with it made a meal fit for royalty! And Gene J's "Pig-Ears" were a huge hit! From the combination of great food and terrific raffle prizes, our Scholarship program got a big boost from this year's proceeds.
Keizer Lodge Visits Gateway!

We were pleased to host a visit by our good friends from Keizer Lodge #2472 as they stopped to visit during a "Mystery Tour". We were the first stop on their tour and they came to us for lunch and a tour of our Lodge. These folks are a riot of great fun! Keizer"s Exalted Ruler Cheryl Ruffner is in the front row in the pink top and just behind her in the center is our own Exalted Ruler Russ Muma.
2008 Hot August Days Cruise-in

Beautiful weather, incredible classic cars and bikes, great food & drink and lots of friendly people. All of the necessary ingredients to make this year's Cruise-In a smashing success!
2008 Member Appreciation Adult Picnic

In spite of 100+ degree heat, our members flocked to the Gateway Elks Park as the Lodge showed its appreciation for them with a great picnic, entertainment by the Showtime Review gang and free beer and wine.
2008 Walk for Elks National Foundation

Kicked off by the Cronies pancake breakfast in the park and followed by the Veterans Committee hamburgers and hot dog lunch, the 1st annual Walk for Elks National Foundation got off to a slow but hopeful start.
2008 Widow's Yardsale

The weather could not have been more perfect for an outdoor yardsale. The Gateway Widows did a commendable job gathering a very impressive collection of really useful "stuff" that folks seemed to want or need. Good job ladies!
2008 Flag Day Ceremony

This year's annual Flag Day Ceremony was very well attended and the scouts of Troop #606 did an outstanding job of parading the flags that have flown over this great nation.

2008 Inaugural Ball "Tropical Paradise"

This year marks the 40th annual Inaugural Ball at Gateway Lodge. Exalted Ruler Russ Muma requested a "Tropical Paradise" theme and the decorating committee went insane! Couples dined and danced in a beautiful island paradise setting complete with bamboo houses, sandy beaches and tiki gods.
