ABOUT THE YOUTH ACTIVITIES COMMITTEE

One of the important committees of the Gateway Elks Lodge is the Youth Activities Committee.
The major focus of the Committee is the "
Teenager of the Month" program.
Each month, during the school year, the Youth Activities Committee of Gateway Elks Lodge in Portland selects a high school student from one the area's high schools to be named “
Teenager of the Month”. Criteria for selection include scholastic achievement, school involvement and community assistance. The students are presented by way of a nomination submitted by their peers, parents, teachers or friends. The Youth Activities Committee reviews the nominations and selects a student to honor each month.
Each month the student to be honored is presented to the members of Gateway Elks Lodge in a special ceremony prior to a regular Lodge meeting and receives a US Savings Bond. During Youth Activities Week each May, one of the honored students from the previous year is chosen to be "
Teenager of the Year"
